Velma & Louise is a one-woman studio in Upstate New York offering a unique combination of wild & refined driftwood & lettering.
1 part lettering artist, 1 part woodworker, and 1 part river lover perhaps best explains how this Velma & Louise driftwood work began. My love of creating pieces by hand and passion for using natural materials and a sustainable practice has developed into this method of gathering driftwood from the river I grew up on, then drying, carving, sanding, and burnishing the wood, all with only hand tools. No harsh chemicals or varnishes are used. The lettering is also entirely freehand and painted on in several coats with a fine brush. To finish, the golden glint of a wire wrap is added for a final geometric element. The wood is collected and worked on in my studio in Upstate NY.
Take a look around for more of the story, check the Etsy shop, the Society6 shop, follow on Instagram, and you are always welcome to write in with an inquiry for custom work. I love working with you to design one-of-a-kind pieces for your special event or space.
